I ask a few (very few) people their thoughts on my work. The reasons behind this are myriad, but primarily, I don't wanna bother anyone I know and I certainly don't want to bother anyone I don't know. So I have a short list of people I've worked with and trust.
Still, my feedback loop is unbalanced.
I take positive comments from people I know as worthless kindesses and friendly lies most of the time. I wait anxiously for critical comments, because those are the ones I believe. Those are the ones that help me move forward or that I can ignore.
The problem is that I can't get over the concept that the people I know are going to try to avoid hurting my feelings, so they operate under the "find something nice to say" rules of commenting. Even if that isn't true, I can't help judge their reviews with that in mind.
What I need is an online place where people I don't know can read my material and comment (good and bad). Kinda like crowd-crit. That way I can believe what works as well as find out what doesn't.
Anyone with a suggestion, please comment below.
